About Alyssa
Alyssa Avant is a Christian writer, blogger, podcaster, speaker, and business owner whose desire is to turn the hearts of girls towards God. Alyssa is real, approachable, and enthusiastic as she shares from her heart and from the Word of God. She lives by Romans 8:28, knowing that
“…all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose,”
and her passion is teaching girls how this truth can empower them to be different, set apart, and truly beautiful in the eyes of God and others.
Growing up, Alyssa knew deep in her heart that God was calling her to do something, although she did not yet know what it was. During her teen years, she was constantly encouraged by her parents, her youth director, and many others in her life to be different from the norm, to not follow the crowd. Her father even spelled her name, Alyssa (pronounced A-le-sha), differently for that very reason - he wanted her to be different. Of her father, Alyssa says, “Not only did he want me to be different, but he also wanted me to be independent. He always taught me to stand on my own two feet. These are things that have helped me to become the person I am today.”
Using the tools she received in her upbringing and the word of God, Alyssa now helps others to realize the importance of standing apart and letting God’s beauty shine in them.
Taking her mission to the masses, in April 2007 she began the Mom-Daughter Connection Podcast. The podcast currently reaches over 200 listeners. She also publishes a weekly newsletter to 450 subscribers besides authoring several blogs and working as a freelance writer.
A proud graduate of the University of Mississippi, Alyssa Avant holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and is completing a Master’s Degree program in Christian Education at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Alyssa is also a graduate of She Speaks, a program for speakers by Proverbs 31 Ministries, for whom she writes youth devotions on the website, A Rad Revolution. She served as the Youth and Children’s Minister at Carrollton Baptist Church from June 2002 to March 2007.
A wife and mother, Alyssa lives happily in Carrollton, Mississippi with her devoted husband Greg, 4-year-old son Baker, infant daughter Lily, and beloved basset hound, Duke. Alyssa is currently expecting her third child in July 2008.
