Meet Christian Writer & Speaker, Alyssa Avant

    Email Alyssa

I knew years ago deep in my heart that God was calling me to do something, but what that something was I did not know. During my teen years, I was constantly encouraged by my parents, my youth director and many others in my life to be different from the norm, to not follow the crowd. My dad even spelled my name Alyssa, pronounced A-le-sha, different for the very reason that he wanted me to be different.

Not only did he want me to be different, but he also wanted me to be independent. He always taught me to stand on my own two feet. These are things that have helped me to become the person I am today.

Through the events that I felt led to create, I hope to teach girls how they too can be different, "set apart" and truly beautiful in the eyes of God and others for being who they really are. It is my hope and prayer that I can be a part of your ministry or organization and touch your life in some way!

Got Confidence?

Bright smile “Confidence, I’ve got confidence, my Lord’s going to see me through”, lyrics to a song I sang often as a teen. This is the only confidence that is real in my life, the confidence I have in Christ. Confidence in self is something I have always struggled with, I think I probably hid it well but I have always had confidence issues. Behind my bright smile, I hid the fact that I was and am a shy person, who lacks the confidence I really need.

Sure things over the years have helped to boost my confidence, making the cheerleader squad in Junior high, attending modeling school in high school, meeting my husband, graduating from college, being admitted to seminary. But then I let those failures creep in, or at least they are failures in my eyes, the things I’ve left undone, create a lack of confidence in myself. It is only when I put my full confidence in and draw strength from God that I am able to remain strong and confident.

The thing is we can rely fully on the confidence that comes from Christ if we just allow Him to be that confidence for us.  We are the ones who struggle with it, Not Him, He is in control, He has a plan.  Another song, “He Who Began a Good Work In You” begins playing in my head….then the verse,

Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Philippians 1:6

plays as well. The Lord puts all of things on my heart and mind helping me to remain confident. I know I can continually go to Him because I know He can bring me confidence like no other.

What about you, what gives you confidence?  Do you go to God for the confidence that you need?  Test him, and prove him today to bring you the confidence that you need.
